2015 NATIONAL CHAMPIONS!

Richmond VA, July 18, 2015 - Doug Swanson's U16s came home from the Seattle ECNL playoffs with one purpose in mind and that was to win a National Championship in VA. TODAY, THEY DID JUST THAT!

WCFC played their first match in VA against Lonestar SC and jump ahead on the leader board with a 5-1 win over Lonestar.

In their second match, LV Premier took an early 2-0 lead in the first 15 minutes of game but Doug Swanson's team was unrattled and able to tie it up by the half. They continued to work in the second half and managed a 6-2 lead. LV was able to convert a pk to finish the game at 6-3.

The third match on Friday was against national powerhouse DeAnza Force. This game would determine who played in the National Finals game the next day. DeAnza struck first and early making it 1-0. WCFC was able to convert later in the half and get into halftime with a tie. In the group standings, WCFC led DeAnza Force in goal differential, by 1, giving WCFC the tie breaker advantage. At the start of the second half DeAnza showed why they are one of the top teams in the country and regained the lead they needed to move on to the finals but Doug Swanson's girls didn't lose their cool and tied it up late in the second half at 2-2. They fought hard and where able to hold on to the tie to move on to the Finals vs Stars of Massachusetts.

In the game for the championshilp, WCFC found themselves behind in the score once again as Stars was able to put the ball in the net first. WCFC continued their come-from-behind pattern and tied it up by the half. WCFC came out in the second half strong and delivered 2 quick blows to make it 3-1. Stars rallied late into the second half and managed to score once more but it was not enough to catch West Coast who ended their trip to VA earning the club a star and the ECNL NATIONAL CHAMPIONSHIP title.

WCFC is proud of how these fine athletes carried each other through adversity all week and how they displayed what it takes to succeed at this level. Well done ladies and congratulations coach Doug Swanson!!!

CONGRATULATIONS WEST COAST FC U16!!!
