West Coast FC Holds Its Bi-Annual College Night

WCFCCollegeNight2016

On Sunday night West Coast FC held its Bi-Annual college night at the Norman P Murray Center in Mission Viejo. Our goal was to provide as much legitimate information as to eliminate the unrealistic hopes of a full college scholarship. What a West Coast FC player can provide a university athletically and academically is his or her most valuable currency.

We believe that easier access to better information has helped subdue some of the college scholarship mythology and its actually possible for players who are not recruited by college coaches or aren't invited to various identification programs or youth national team camps to play college soccer. Without those avenues it becomes difficult, but at the end of the day, college coaches are looking for great players irrespective of the source.

We arranged a panel of college coaches as well as current West Coast standout and Mission Viejo High School class of 2018 Michael Oakson who has committed to Cal State Fullerton Men's soccer program. Michael's dad John also sat on the panel and both provided valuable insight as to how the West Coast FC college quest process run by the club's college placement coordinator Bryan Wallace was able to help Michael find the right college fit. Michael's teammate Brett Jones, another long standing West Coast FC player since age 10 also recently completed the process and has committed to UC San Diego men's soccer program through a well deserved soccer scholarship.

Last night we had the following University and it's respective coached on our panel.

1. Chris Volk, Head Men's Soccer Head Coach at Division 1 powerhouse UC Irvine (Big West Conference)

2. Brent Broadhurse, Assistant Men's Soccer Coach at Division 2 powerhouse Cal Poly Pomona (CCA Conference)

3. Shion Jangagri, Assistant Coach Vanguard University Division 3 powerhouse (Golden State Athletic conference NAIA)

4. Martin Mcgrogen, Head Men's Soccer Coach Irvine Valley College (Junior College Conference)

5. Kyle Smidt, Assistant Men's Soccer Coach at Division 1 powerhouse Cal State Fullerton.

The club would like to thank everyone for attending and we hope the event was informative. If you have any questions or concerns please reach out to West Coast FC Boys College Placement Coordinator Bryan Wallace.
