The BU14 team coached by Bryan Wallace are finally peaking at the right time of the season.  Over the Labor Day weekend the boys competed against a very strong field and were able to emerge as champions. In their first game the boys gave up an early goal but rebounded to score seven times to defeat South Bay Falcons 7-2. Striker Daniel Tuscano scored 3 goals, while Ruben Cazales scored twice, Brandon Biaghtan and Skyler Smith each had 1 goal. In their second game the boys had a rematch against RSF Attack who they tied 0-0 at Surf Cup. RSF attack, who also recently won the Albion College Showcase tournament, gave the boys all they could handle but the boys once against played at an incredible level to win the match 2-0. In their third and final group game the boys faced Sparta Premier Utah (State Champions, Utah # 1 ranked team) and once again emerged victorious 3-0 with Carson Kendall scoring an amazing volley from the top of the 18 yard box. The boys never looked to be in danger of conceding a goal at anytime during the match. They qualified for the quarterfinals in first place where they faced Laverne Lazers. The Lazers, who were recently crowned FC Man United Cup champions, played a very physical and direct style however the boys scored early with goals from Ruben Cazales and Sebastian Hertel to go up 2-0. An assurance goal right before halftime was scored by the consistent Brandon Biagtan with Isaias Sanchez adding a late goal, ending the game 4-2.

The semifinal game Monday morning was also a rematch of a recent lost to the Pateadoes IE (Cal South 2015 National Cup Champions) at the West Coast tournament in the semifinals on penalty kicks. The boys came out playing incredible combination soccer and quickly settled into their passing style building attacks from the back and deep into the opponent defensive third. The Pats played a very similar style to the Lazers, very direct with no passing or building attacks from the back. Relying heavily on knockdowns and counter attacks, the boys failed to clear one of the many long balls into the box and the Pats capitalized and scored to go up 1-0. The boys responded well and should have equalized immediately however poor finishing let them down. With time running out, the team changed shape to play with an extra striker creating one more scoring chance. Striker Cazales buried his opportunity to tie the score 1-1 in extra time. The boys once again dominated possession and once again created multiple scoring chances but failed to score. With the score still tied at the end of the 20 minute extra time, it meant penalty kicks once again. West Coast FC goalkeeper Joey Diaz stepped up and saved two of the Pats penalty kicks while Biaghtan, Smith, Tuscano and Kendall all scored to give West Coast FC the win.

The championship final, an hour and a half later, was a hard fought match as this was the boys 6th game in three days. They faced an incredibly athletic Anaheim FC team (2015 Surf Cup Champions). The boys were all exhausted and had a number of injuries so coach Wallace decided to rest a few of the starters. They weren't at their best and Anahain FC took the game to them and should have scored a few times. Good defending from team captain Armondo Granados as well as Chase Kier, Tyler Oakson, Domenyk Jara, Sam Neglia, Jett Rocha, Matt Chung and goalkeeper Diaz kept them in the game. They gave up a late goal in the first half, but the boys responded well to tie the score on a Smith goal to make it 1-1 at halftime. The score remained the same until the end of regulation which meant an additional 20 minutes of extra time. With no additional scoring in the overtime period the boys once again had to try and earn the championship through penalty kicks. Diaz in goal made two big saves while Smith, Kendall, Tuscano, and Isaias all scored to bring the title back home to West Coast FC. Congratulations gentlemen we are all very proud of you!!!
